The Kelly SHU PLUGZ™ system is a Female XLR to Female 3.5mm trs reducer and Male XLR balanced audio cable that plugs into the reducer. The converter cable provides a solderless and simple solution for routing any XLR audio cable through an opening that is 1/4 inch in diameter or larger. Perhaps it’s an isolation cabinet, or an XLR needs to pass around a cover or grill on an amp cabinet. Maybe it’s to route an XLR cable under a wall or partition that you can’t pass a standard XLR connector under. Or, maybe it’s a closed drum shell with an internal microphone supported by The Kelly SHU™ System that you need a internal microphone cable to make an audio connection with. BEFORE ORDERING! Be sure of the length of cable that you need. For example, most 20 to 24 inch kick drums will require the 42-inch cable, especially if the air vent is located on the top of the drum shell. The 24-inch cable will just barely get your XLR signal out of the center of a 14 inch drum shell and around the side to the tension rod where the XLR bracket will be located. The 16-inch cables are produced more in mind for a standard audio application. It is better to have too much cable than it be too short. You can take a loop of the extra cable inside the drum shell or along the cable path and secure it using one of the provided cable ties, however it is impossible to add one inch to the length.

FOR USE WITH CLOSED DRUM SHELLS HAVING INTERNAL TOM DRUM MICROPHONES:
To locate the Male XLR connector to the outside of the drum shell, first determine which tuning lug you would like the connector to be positioned at. Remove the chosen tension rod from the drum. Wrap the rubberized bracket around the Male XLR as shown here and pass the tension rod through the holes in the bracket, then replace and tension rod back into the tuning lug. The bracket will tighten down around the connector as you tension the drum to the desired pitch. NOTE: This bracket is designed for use with standard triple-flange hoops and/or hoop claws that have a Non-recessed tension rod design.
